Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

EHS News (ehsnews.digital) is a multilingual news and knowledge platform for EHS/HSE professionals. We handle personal data with care and process as little of it as possible. This policy explains which data that is, why we process it, and what rights you have.

Who is responsible?

EHS News is run on a voluntary basis. For questions about this policy or about personal data, you can contact us at contact@ehsnews.digital.

What data do we process?

Visitor statistics. We measure website usage with Statify, a privacy-friendly WordPress statistics module. Statify uses no cookies and stores no IP addresses or other data that could identify a visitor. We only see aggregated figures, such as the number of page views and the referring website.

Language preference. To remember your language choice (Dutch, English, French or German), the website sets a functional cookie from the Polylang translation module. This cookie contains only your language choice, is necessary for the website to work properly and contains no personal data. For this reason, no consent is required.

Technical data (server logs). Our hosting provider, Hostinger, records technical data with every visit, such as the IP address, the time, the requested page and the browser type. This is necessary for the security and stability of the website. Hostinger does not keep this data longer than necessary to provide the service and to comply with legal obligations.

Contact form and email. If you send us a message through the contact form or by email, we process the data you enter yourself: your name, email address, the subject and your message (and, optionally, the link to the article your question is about). We use this solely to answer your question or handle your request. We do not keep messages longer than necessary, in principle no longer than 12 months after handling, unless we have to keep them longer (for example, for a correction request that we need to be able to demonstrate).

On what legal basis?

We process statistics, the language cookie and server logs on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): a well-functioning, secure website whose use we can improve. Messages you send us are processed to answer your question (legitimate interest).

Sharing with third parties and transfers

We do not sell personal data and do not use it for marketing. We share data only with parties that are needed to keep the website running: our hosting provider, Hostinger, and our email service. Hostinger processes data in, among other places, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Cyprus and, where necessary, in other countries, including outside the European Economic Area. Hostinger states that it applies the required safeguards; see the Hostinger privacy policy for details.

No advertising or tracking cookies

At the moment we show no advertisements and use no tracking or marketing cookies, no Google Analytics and no social media plug-ins. Commenting on articles is not possible. If this changes in the future, we will ask for your consent beforehand through a cookie banner and update this policy.

Personal data in articles

Our articles about workplace accidents and incident investigations are based on public sources. They do not mention names, places of residence or other directly identifying details of victims and people involved. If an article nevertheless contains something that makes you or a relative identifiable, or if a detail is incorrect, please let us know via the contact form or by email; we will amend the article as soon as possible.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or erase your personal data, to restrict processing, to object, and to data portability. Send a message to contact@ehsnews.digital for this. We respond within one month. To prevent misuse, we may ask you to identify yourself.

Do you disagree with how we handle your data? Then you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). We would prefer to hear from you first, so that we can resolve it.

Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including a secure (HTTPS) connection and regular updates of the website.

Changes

We may amend this policy, for example when we introduce new features or advertising. The most recent version is always available on this page.
