The Ministries of Labor and Health added a new training module to their existing online course on endometriosis at the end of August. The expansion specifically targets occupational health professionals and offers practical knowledge for supporting employees with this chronic condition.

The new module consists of multiple instructional videos that address the effects of endometriosis on workplace functioning. The first videos cover different work situations and provide concrete recommendations for possible workplace accommodations. This is relevant for occupational physicians, prevention advisors and other HSE professionals who support employees with endometriosis.

Later videos in the module focus on collaboration between occupational physicians and regional healthcare networks for endometriosis. These networks have been established in recent years to improve the medical treatment of the condition. Better integration of occupational health professionals into these care pathways should ensure more effective support for employees.

The complete online course now consists of 42 instructional videos, divided into five modules. The training is freely accessible after a simple registration. The program was originally launched in 2021 to increase knowledge about endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects women in their reproductive years. The condition is characterized by diverse and varying symptoms that can impact quality of life in all aspects, including working life. Despite its impact, the disease remains relatively unknown, both among the general public and among professionals.

For HSE professionals, knowledge about endometriosis is important when developing absence management policies and return-to-work programs. The condition can lead to regular absenteeism and reduced work productivity. With appropriate workplace accommodations and support, many employees with endometriosis can continue to function. The new training module provides concrete guidance for this purpose.
